Superbowl

I was hoping to catch the Superbowl today. I like both the Patriots and the Giants, and even though I really didn't follow the season this year, it would have been fun to watch the game. It should be a good one. There's one Croatian channel carrying the game, but I don't get it on my TV. I was hoping to watch it online, but alas. I can listen to it online, but being in the wee hours of the morning, I just don't think I'd be able to stay awake without the visual stimulation.

I really don't know who I want to win... Like I said, I like both teams. It would be kind of fun for the Patriots to be 19-0, but it would be fun for the Giants to beat the the so far unbeatable team. I guess I'll just wake up tomorrow and be happy for which ever team won. When two teams I like play each other, I usually would cheer for the underdog (Unless it's Tampa - I alway s want Tampa to win), so maybe I should be rooting for the Giants. Oh, I don't know. It's just a a game. I kind of wish I lived in Arizona so I could rent my house to one of the crazy people paying thousands of dollars to go to the game.

The best thing about the football season was that Miami was 1-15. Oh how happy I would have been if they were 0-16, but 1-15 isn't so bad. :) There's always next year for Miami to be a perfect 0-16.

It's my favorite time of year again, and last night I got to do one of my favorite things - go to a Celik game!! It was the first game of the regular season, and a home game - and we won!! It wasn't the most exciting game (ok, I mean, I just watched probably 35 World Cup games last month, so the level of the game wasn't all that stellar), but it was so great to go to a Čelik game! Me, Tiffany, Scott, Sladjan and his friend Adis went together. There was only one goal, obvioulsy, (but it only takes one goal to win), so the game was a bit slow, but the company was great!!

I just love the atmosphere - red and black flags waving everywhere, flares, firecrackers, yelling, clapping, cheers, whistling, really bad words, and lots of drunk people. Honestly, I love seeing Bosnians passionate about SOMETHING. And people in Zenica are passionate about their soccer team. I would love to harness just some of that passion into something productive and eternal. Maybe one day... I often pray for the soccer players because I truly believe if just one of them professed Christ, multitudes would follow. Their fans love them to no end.

I'm really glad everyone was able to go. I hope we can keep up the trend. The next home game is in two weeks - I'm so there!!

I went to church today, which was nice. Then went out to lunch with some friends - Sladjan, Adis, Tiffany, Andy, Scott, Donovan, Jocelyn, their summer team... and I think a few others were there too. Tomorrow morning I have Bible study with Tanja and Darka. They have about 11 more days before they head back to the States. Nela couldn't meet for Bible study this week because she had company, and then she didn't come to church today. I'm trying not to get too worried, but I am. Hopefully we will be able to get together sometime this week to hang out and talk and catch up on the Bible study.

I feel like there was something else I wanted to post, but I can't think what it is right now. So I guess I will post this and finish watching Columbo - they put the strangest things on TV here!!

It never occured to me...

I was watching yet another World Cup game - the USA vs Czech, to be exact, when it hit me... During Bosnias quest to qualify for the World Cup, I promised myself if we made it, I was going to go to Germany to watch Bosnia play. Never once did it occur to me that I could go to the World Cup and watch America play... It just struck me funny as I was watching the US play (and not play very well, mind you), that I was watching it on TV, but that I would have done anything and everything in my power to make sure I was in Germany to watch Bosnia play. And don't get e started about Bosnia not being there... we should have made it but Spain apparently pays off it's referees - who ever heard of 7 minutes of injury time?? And technically, they got more than 7 minutes since the ref waited till almost 8 minutes to blow the end of game whistle... right after Spain scored... yeah, we weren't robbed... Needless to say, I will not ever cheer for Spain - Un Bloody Mary, Por Favor... Uugh...

But the Polish play Germany tonight... My people better make me proud. Croatia lost to Brazil last night, but they only lost by one goal - not bad... The Croatian fans did make us proud as in true Balkan style managed to sneak flares into the stadium, and get a fan through all the security to run onto the field... I love soccer in the Balkans...

It's still rainy and stormy and cold and gross here... June 14 and I'm in a sweatshirt... sigh

Nela is doing quite well. She is moved back into her apartment. It looks very nice. I'm still trying to gather stuff for her. She borrowed a John Grisham book that I have in Croatian - A Time to Kill. She loves it. She cracks me up. She brings me great joy as I see her spiritual growth. Her desire to learn about God is encouraging and brings me much hope. We are going to do the bible study "Experiencing God" together. We have it in Bosnian, and i'm waiting for my English copy to arrive. Everyday she calls me - "Did your mom mail you the book?? Is it hear yet? Go to the post office and see!" She drives me crazy, but it's the good kind of making me crazy :) I love her to death, and I'm so glad she's in my life.

Ok, well it's thundering, so I should go before my computer explodes or something... Much love...

Fourth Game and Counting...

So, I'm sitting here watching my fourth World Cup 2006 match... I've seen the first four games so far, with my fifth coming up in a couple of hours. I'm anticipating watching most of the games - when in Europe, do as the Europeans -and most of the rest of the world - do. I do enjoy soccer very much, actually. I missed it when I was in the States on furlough. Let's see... right now Trinidad and Tobago is playing Sweden. I watched England beat Paraguay, Germany beat Costa Rica, and Ecuador beat Poland. I was quite devastated by the Polish lost. My people need to get their act together. I'm looking forward to Croatia's first game on Tuesday, and I think Serbia and Montenegro play their first game Sunday. It will be weird to cheer for the US when they play because I'm so used to cheering for Bosnia or Croatia at sporting events. But cheer I will - I'll even pull my little American flag out and wave it to my heart's content. Maybe I'll have an American food night as well - buffalo wings, here I come.

Wow, this Sweden/Trinidad game is by far the best one yet!

I did something very cool today. I ordered groceries on-line and had them delivered!! I've been wanting to try it just for fun as one of the stores here in town offers the service. I went out shopping today, and the store I went to didn't have Skoobi's food - so... I got on-line and had 9 kilos delivered to my door... along with some chicken for me :) That is going to come in quite handy during the winter!! The really nice thing is you can pay cash when the guy gets here so I don't have to worry about my CC info getting stolen or anything. Sometimes Bosnia really does have it's act together.

Aargh... Trinidad just hit the goal post... darn... I'm rooting for them... the score is still 0-0 in the 59th minute... and Trinidad is down a guy do to a red card - go T&T!!!!

Most of you shoud know my big news about leaving IT and having my church be my sender to Bosnia. I'm excited about it. I think it's going to be a really great thing. OK, well, I need to go make supper. I'm debating between the chicken that was delivered to my door or a packet of instant oatmeal... sigh...
