Yesterday, Tuesday, was a good day. I realized it was Skoobi's anniversary day - I've had her for 4 years now - so we had our annual ice cream treat. Well, she had ice cream and I had a bag of Cheetos to celebrate. She loves her ice cream.
I had Bible study with Merlina, Donata, and the new girl, Laura. It was really good. I almost want to say it was the "best" one yet, but I don't know how to really qualify that. I prepared two small studies to give them the option of what to study - either the Names of God, or women in the Bible. I chose these two because, well, they are what I am desiring to study at the moment, and I think both would be excellent for the women of our church to study.
They decided they wanted to study the women of the Bible. I wasn't surprised, and I was quite pleased. These are three young women, young in their faith who have very very few women "role models." I asked them to name all the men in the Bible they could think of. They came up with about 25. When I asked them to name the women, they came up with 10. Hmmmmm... I started naming some of the women we would be studying - Of course they knew Eve, Sarah, Mary, Mary Magdalene... But the names Jael, Tamar, Rizpah, Lydia and so many more were foreign to them.
We then looked at Proverbs 31. We looked specifically at the verses talking about being clothed with strength and dignity, and then about charm being deceptive and beauty fleeting, but a woman who fears the Lord should be praised. In my eyes, it sparked some great conversation and comments. i've been wanting to talk about some of these thing with them for such a long time - that people know they are Belivers and that people watch them whether they know it or not. Are the ways they are acting and dressing to glorifying God, or are they just tyring to get attention from the opposite sex... Even in the church, it's not about being clothed in strength, dignity, and grace, but being clothed in whatever you think makes you look and feel 'good' and attractive to the opposite sex.
I hope the message got through... time will tell. They did seem to 'get it' and really were eager to talk about it. Pray for us next week as we look at Eve...

hey... oh yeah, I'm sure part of the dressing is also about fitting in with the other girls, showing off what they have, trying to be someone they aren't... i can only fight so many battles at once, ya know... :) We'll definitely be focusing on some of those issues as well.
I do think it will be a cool study - one that i can learn from as well.
hope to see both of you guys soon... i'll have you over after easter :)
it does sound like a great study. they've probably never even considered some of these concepts and i know no one has ever been able to talk with them about it. hopefully it's just what they need.
