Happy Holidays...

Well, for most of you it's not a holiday, but it's a big holiday weekend here in Croatia. Today is "Croatia Uprising Day" and Monday is Croatia State Day. Thank goodness that in the park yesterday Ljubica mentioned she was going to the store since it was a holiday. I still don't know all the holidays here, and when there is a holiday, everything is closed. So I was very thankful as I was planning to go to the store today, but instead I was able to go yesterday. A good thing since everything will basically be closed till Tuesday.

These pictures below were from the celebration in the park last night - bringing the holiday in with a bang. I haven't used my digital at night before this, so they aren't the best pictures, but it was fun to watch the fireworks from my window. That was at about 10pm. As Skoobi and I were sleeping at 11:45, we jerked awake by a huge explosion. She hates loud noises and began to freak out. I looked out the window, and they were doing fireworks again! The first group at 10:00 lasted about 10 minutes. This second set - a half hour! Skoobi and I didn't get backj to sleep till almost 2am. Oh well - happy holidays!






It's only 9:50 am here, but it's the first day that my apartment isn't an oven It's been hotter here than in Florida this past week (in the upper 90's). It's been awful. I don't have A/C and so it's really difficult to be able to cool off. Skoobi and I are on a wacky schedule. It's flaming hot by 8am, so Skoobi and I get up at 5:00 to go for our long morning walk. I putter around the house till about 10, then we go back to sleep during the hottest part of the day (I get the morning sun through all my windows - even with the shades down, it's nasty), and then get up in the early afternoon. I don't go back to bed till between 10-11 when the house finally cools down some. Skoobi and I go for another walk between 9-10 in the evening when it's a bit cooler. Poor Skoobi doesn't even want to play in the house during the day, she gets so hot. The sun rises before 5 and doesen't go down till about 9:15, so it's a long day to begin with.

And here is one of my favorite pictures from when I was in the States. I was so excited to see a shuttle launch! It was so beautiful I haven't seen one in ages, so it was a great treat!
